چکیده

This paper describes an object-based approach to the problem of reconstructing three-dimensional descriptions of arterial trees from a few angiographic projections. The method incorporates a priori knowledge of the structure of branching arteries into a natural optimaiity criterion that encompasses the entire arterial tree. This global approach enables reconstruction from a few noisy projection images. We present an efficient optimization algorithm for object estimation, and demonstrate its performance on simulated, phantom, and in vivo magnetic resonance angiograms.

Object-based 3-D reconstruction of arterial trees from magnetic resonance angiograms.

By exploiting a priori knowledge of arterial shape and smoothness, subpixel accuracy reconstructions are achieved from only four noisy projection images. The method incorporates a priori knowledge of the structure of branching arteries into a natural optimality criterion that encompasses the entire arterial tree. An efficient optimization algorithm for object estimation is presented, and its pe...

Fenestration of the middle cerebral artery detected by MR angiography.

Unlike fenestration of the posterior cerebral arterial circulation, fenestration of the anterior cerebral arterial circulation has not been well described. We investigated the location and configuration of fenestration of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) detected by magnetic resonance (MR) angiography. We found 6 fenestrations of the MCA among cranial MR angiography images obtained from about 2...

Between-method correlation in quantifying internal carotid stenosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The degree of internal carotid stenosis has emerged as the most important predictor of ischemic stroke in extracranial carotid artery disease. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the noninvasive techniques for quantifying internal carotid stenosis with respect to the accepted standard of intra-arterial angiography. METHODS We measured the maximum per...

Computer-Assisted Visualization of Arteriovenous Malformations on the Home PC

OBJECTIVE: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are difficult lesions partly because it is difficult to formulate a mental, 3D image of the nidus and of its supplying arteries, draining veins, and arteries of passage. Our purpose is to provide PC software that allows better visualization of complex, three-dimensional (3D), connected vascular anatomy for surgical planning. METHODS: Vessels are def...
